"Scrappy was one of my three favorite dogs of all time. He was very people friendly and loved playing the spring pole. A spring pole is a strong spring (like a garage door spring) hanging from a tree or some type of post. Most Pit Bulls love playing Tug-o-War with the spring. Like a treadmill, some people wrongly assume it is used to train for dog fighting. While this is true, there are many people such as myself who would never fight their dog; but use the spring pole as a means for the dog to enjoy recreation, burn off excess energy and stay healthy." read more...

How to Add CKC Recognized Breeds...

As a member of Dog Gone Good Training Forum, you are more than welcome to add breeds to the CKC Recognized Breeds Database. Because Members are not allowed to start or reply to posts in the CKC Recognized Breeds Database, you can post your breed standard in the regular breed board first and I will move it to it's proper place.

I've compiled a general layout for what each breed standard page should look like, but of course it is not limited to this layout. If you cannot find information on a specific part of the standard (say, the gait) you are allowed to omit it. If you would like to add more information, please feel free! The LEAST amount of information that should be on each breed standard page is a General Appearance, Origin, First Puprose, and History with at least one picture of the breed.

Also, because these are CANADIAN breed standards, you shouldn't have American or European etc. standards listed. You must also list every source you used to collect the information.

Non Canadian standards will be added to these standards later, but not until the original Canadian standards list is completed ;)

Your breed standard post may be subject to change if I feel there is the wrong information based on the Canadian Breed Standard, improtant information missing, or improper sources.

There are some websites out there with poor information about breeds. Good ones to look out for are Canada's Guide to Dogs, Wikipedia (although Wiki does not have all Canadian Info so do your research and choose wisely), and the Canadian Kennel Club.
Websites to avoid are Dog Breed Info Center.

If your source comes from a book, please list the title and author, and if possible a link to information about the book and/or where to purchase it (such as Amazon.com)

Please write "Sub-Board Pending" in the subject of any post you create that is a breed standard and needs to be moved to the CKC Recognized Breeds sub-board.

Below is the layout:

Code:
[b]Group:[/b]

[b]Origin: [/b]
[b]Purpose:[/b]

[b]General Appearance:[/b]

Copy the above code into a new post and fill in the blanks.
