This was just too strange not to post... www.wsoctv.com/family/15847789/detail.htmlI don't know how that could happen. Granted, I do have mutts but I'd like to think that even if I had a purebred dog I'd be able to tell if it was my dog or not right away.

What I don't get is how is it that the owner with thier dog hasn't noticed "their" dog some how had it's dew claws surgically removed and healed in the time she was at the kennel

"The mix-up may have been prevented by the use of a collar, but the kennel does not allow collars because it considers them dangerous."

Well when you have several dogs running around together in a fenced area collars can be dangerous because they can get caught/twisted and strangle the dog. I remember a couple of our dogs had something like this happen. If I remember correctly it was Jasper and Blue. I can't remember which was where but one of them got their jaw actually caught under the other's collar and all twisted in it. It is possible to use paper collars though, and I think some places actually do this. Put a paper collar on the dog with their name on it. This way it's not hazzardous and you can still tell which dog is which. Personally though I don't see this helping much. Collars are a good way to control and lead a dog and I don't see that possible with a paper collar, plus you'd think it would tear TOO easily. I think that the best way to get around this would be that you use those "roll-away" collars (I think that's what they're called but I could be wrong). I think if I ran a kennel I'd keep a lot of those on hand, maybe with those kind of tags that are like a little container that clips to the dogs collar with the pice of paper inside. That would seem easy and cost effective to just write the dogs name on the paper, put it in the little container, and put one of those collars on the dog. if they get caught on something they roll as the dog moves and slide off the dogs head. Easier than the give away kind because those ones tend to give away TOO easily and you'd just have naked dogs running around everywhere, defeating the purpose of a collar in the first place Just my idea anyway
