This is enough to break a dog owner's heart ezinearticles.com/index.php?Puppy-Mills---The-Exploitation-Of-Mans-Best-Friend&id=1102904I went to Harp's Pet Store the other day, and saw that they had 3 Cocker Spaniel puppies for sale for $450 each. That's just crazy!!! I felt so sorry for them. They looked old enough to be away from their mother, but the poor things were nothing but money makers for that store. I had to leave and bite my tongue as I passed the sales people. I'll never go back there again.

Yeah, it's really sad Did you catch the Oprah episode last week about puppy mills? I'm so glad she touched base on this subject, she has so many viewers and the word really needs to get out. I also have some information about it written here: www.doggonegoodtraining.net - "Important Truths" I also touch base a little about it HERE.

No, I didn't see that Oprah episode (but I wish that I would have seen it). I just happen to come across the page that I referred to. Both of my dogs came from the Humane Society, so we knew that, although they may come with their own baggage, those are the ones that really need homes, and aren't being sold for profit. Also, both are mixed breeds. I know some people stick their noses up to mixed breeds (calling them "mutts" in disgust), and would never get a dog without "papers". But yet, most of those "Pure Bred" dogs are prone to terrible diseases and behavior problems, or "inbred". I would take my "mutts" over a inbred dog any day.

I have 2 purebred dogs at the moment, but I love mixed breeds too. They seem to have this intelligence that a lot of pures just have lost through breeding. Good for you for rescue. Rex came from a puppy mill, at 12 weeks old. He did live in an indoor/outdoor kennel, but he had to be taught everything, like floor surfaces, what a cat was, etc. I have since, (with a lot of help)closed this particular mill down. They got about 400 dogs out of there.

Puppy mills are sick! I don't go into pet stores that sells live animals anymore because I just end up getting really peeved off. I find it hard for me to hold my tongue and I want to start ranting and raving about how horrible puppy mills are. I was in one the other day and I almost marched up to the lady at the front and told her what I thought about her buying puppy mill puppies. There were cages stuffed with puppies so I'm pretty sure that's where they came from. Aaron dragged me out before I could go off. He thinks it's the pregnancy hormones. I just think I'm crazy...but in a good way. ;D
