Did you know that Obesity is actually a real problem among pet dogs?
Owners seem to "kill their pets with kindness". Although it isn't always the owners fault. As a dog gets older his matobolism isn't quite the same, and he tends to pack on the extra pounds a little easier. There are a lot of health problems that can occur from obesity in dogs, but before I scare you away, remember there are ways to prevent and reverse the effects of obesity in your dog!
You can start by making sure your dog is on a regular diet and exercise program. Some people don't recomend feeding dogs any table scraps, but I personally believe a lot of what we eat is BY FAR much better than what's in their kibble! Even a lot of GOOD quality kibbles are still filled with crap ingredients and fillers! Whenever my dogs get table scraps, I add it in with thier dinner, and cut out some of the kibble for the older, more overweight dog.
Regular exercise is very important for your dog. Dogs NEED to run and play every day! They enjoy walking with their owners, for them it's like taking a stroll with the pack! It's also healthier for us as the owners too So please remember to get the leash out and walk your dog every day!
Dogs are best at forward moving motions. Jumping, twisting and turning can be hard on a dogs joints and must be taken into account when exercising your dog. Dog Agility is a perfect example of this. The whole entire sport is made up of jumping up and down, twisting and turning! So if you're into Agility, please know how to preform it safely for your pet, and take it easy!
