I challenge each member of the forum to teach their dog(s) one new trick, skill, manner etc. in the next two weeks.
I want daily (or close to it!) reports on how each lesson goes and the progress. Videos and pictures are also welcomed
Here's the rules of this challenge (and we'll have to use the honor system for it )...
1. You must spend at least 5 minutes a day working on this trick and it must be learned within two weeks (so by April 7th). I have a feeling most dogs will pick it up much quicker than this though, but due to different factors I figured I'd give you two weeks.
2. It can be absolutly anything from a cute trick, to something in a sport (like agility or frisbee), or maybe some way to curb a bad behavior (such as jumping on people, chasing cats. etc). For those who choose to curb a bad behavior, judging by the specific bad behavior I will be willing to extend the deadline seeing as these things can be harder to teach/learn than a silly trick
3. Now here's the somewhat "tricky" part as even I do it for tricks; you are NOT allowed to use treats! The only way I'll allow treats to be used is if you explain your situation and it can be used (if approved) as a way to have your dog "get it". I know, I've had moments in trick training where my dog just won't get it without treats and then after just using one or two he gets it!
Now go out and train those puppy dogs!!
I think I'm going to teach Linkin "inside voice" (where he has to lower his volume when given the command), and I'm not sure what to teach Coal yet... I'll have to think of it and try to come up with something that won't involve too much moving around that might hurt his hips, shoulders or elbows.
